NHS Treatment Centre, Bristol

Emersons Green

"We wanted the security and reassurance of working with a healthcare construction specialist that had already delivered."

The Requirement

UKSH, Treatment CentreThe NHS treatment centre at Emerson's Green in Bristol for independent healthcare providers, UK Specialist Hospitals (UKSH) is believed to be the UK's largest complete hospital to be built off site.

It is providing NHS patients in the South West with increased choice and reduced waiting times.

The Solution

The centre has now been constructed off site by Yorkon and craned into position around 70 per cent complete. This approach ensured completion on time, on budget, to a shorter programme, with guaranteed quality and less disruption.

The contract follows Yorkon's successful completion in 2005 of its first project for UKSH - the Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre. That scheme was manufactured and fitted out in just 10 months and is now regarded as one of the UK's top performing NHS treatment centres.

Comments from the Project Team

Fiona Calnan, Chief Executive, UKSH:

"Yorkon was our preferred contractor for this new NHS treatment centre following the success of Shepton Mallet, which they delivered on programme and on budget in partnership with UKSH.  We wanted the security and reassurance of working with a healthcare construction specialist that had already delivered."

"The new treatment centre is giving NHS patients in the South West greater choice as to when and where they are treated, and is delivering the highest levels of patient care and excellent clinical outcomes."

Jane Cameron, Building Control Officer, South Gloucestershire Council:

“This is an excellent healthcare building that successfully demonstrates an innovative approach to construction.  The use of off-site construction shortened the build time, improved site efficiency, and reduced site waste and traffic.  The Yorkon site was very well managed throughout, with excellent workmanship, outstanding communications, and a positive commitment to the health and safety of everyone working on the project.”

“The building was completed to the very highest standards and finish, and as well as being aesthetically pleasing, it is welcoming and user friendly.”
