New 85-Seater fast food restaurant - McDonald’s Uckfield
"What has been achieved in Uckfield in the aftermath of the floods and in such a short space of time is a credit to everyone in the town and we are pleased to play our part by re-opening."
The Requirement
When the town of Uckfield was devastated by the worst floods in 40 years, among the businesses severely damaged was McDonald's drive-thru restaurant. The restaurant, which had been built by Yorkon the previous year, was submerged under around six feet of water.
A completely new McDonald's restaurant was required to be open for business on the site of the flooded building exactly two weeks after the disaster.
The Solution
Yorkon redirected a new 85-seater restaurant from its production centre in York to Uckfield. This was craned into position when the damaged building had been removed and the foundations reconfigured. The team worked around the clock to make this happen in a matter of days and to McDonald's exacting standards.
The new McDonald's restaurant comprised six steel-framed modules, which were delivered to site complete with catering equipment, signage, glazing, heating, plumbing, ventilation, ceramic finishes, joinery and internal walls pre-installed.
This challenging project is an excellent example of what can be achieved with modular construction – speed, quality and efficiency.
