05/07/2001 – Yorkon wins two safety awards from the world's leading Agribusiness
Syngenta, the world's leading agribusiness company, has presented York-based modular building specialist and Portakabin subsidiary, Yorkon, with two awards for safety in its annual Engineering, Maintenance and Construction Safety Awards.
The awards follow the completion of two schemes at Syngenta's Grangemouth site in Scotland. Both buildings were manufactured off-site at Yorkon's 60-acre production facility in York, using the highly innovative modular building method to reduce the construction programme by around 50 per cent and minimise disruption to existing operations.
Commenting on the awards, Ronnie Bardon, Senior Project Engineer (Construction) at Syngenta, said, “The purpose of these awards is to recognise excellence in site safety. Our aim is to encourage good working practices and to acknowledge those contractors and suppliers who have achieved the highest standards.”
“As a building company, the safety of our employees, subcontractors, clients and the local community has to be our highest priority”, said David Johnson, Operations Manager of Yorkon. “We are committed to delivering quality buildings using construction methods, which are safe, quiet, clean and highly efficient. The two awards from Syngenta are further evidence of our success in this area, and we are delighted that the efforts of our team have been recognised in this way.”
Yorkon was responsible for the design and manufacture of a two-storey office and laboratory building, which is now the new administrative centre for Syngenta in Grangemouth.
The second contract was for a three-storey control building, which accommodates testing laboratories, open plan and cellular offices, conference facilities and an operations unit. The scheme is part of Syngenta's multi-million pound investment in a new production plant for second generation strobilurin fungicide.
