18/05/2005 – Yorkon Launches DVDs for Health and Education Professionals
Portakabin subsidiary, Yorkon – winner of the Off-site Manufacturing Specialist of the Year award – has launched two new DVDs to illustrate how off-site construction can be used in the health and education sectors.
The DVDs are designed to assist architects, contractors and clients who are considering off-site construction for school and hospital schemes. They look at a number of practical case studies of high profile modular projects, from the factory to site and with interviews with the building users following handover.
The projects featured include the construction of a three-storey healthcare facility for Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, which is believed to be the UK's largest single hospital scheme to be built using modular building.
The DVD for the education sector shows interviews and footage of the construction process for the new Our Lady of Lourdes School – the UK's first complete school to be built off-site. It also examines the thinking behind Yorkon's new exemplar designs for schools, which have been developed in conjunction with Cartwright Pickard Architects in response to the Government's Building Schools for the Future initiative.
Engineered to the highest standards, Yorkon's award-winning modular building system has received national and international acclaim, having been used to provide accommodation solutions in some of the most challenging situations and in every sector – from education and healthcare facilities to offices, supermarkets, airports and restaurants.
The modular building method offers a number of clear advantages over traditional site-based construction – speed of response, guaranteed quality, design flexibility, improved site safety, less disruption and a faster return on investment.
