17/01/2006 – Yorkon Awarded Two New Office Building Contracts

Yorkon , winner of the Off-site Manufacturing Specialist of the Year award for the third consecutive year, has just been awarded two new office building contracts worth in the region of £2m.

Yorkon is to design and build a two-storey office building for Air Liquide UK – one of the world's leading suppliers of industrial and medical gases. The scheme in Coleshill near Birmingham, is due for completion in Spring 2006 and is designed with the flexibility to accommodate a third storey to meet the company's future requirements and expansion.

The use of off-site construction will ensure the offices will be ready in just five months in time for occupation by staff who are relocating from another site. The Yorkon approach will also reduce the impact of construction and any disruption to Air Liquide's existing operations in adjacent buildings as much of the work takes place off-site in York.

Yorkon's second contract is to provide a two-storey replacement office building for the Highways Agency at West Cowick in East Yorkshire. CarillionWSP, who are responsible for the management, maintenance and improvement of motorways and trunk roads throughout Yorkshire, Humberside and into Derbyshire, will occupy the building.

According to Mike Newberry, Network Strategy Manager at CarillionWSP, "Yorkon's solution gave us the best value for money for this project. Speed was also a factor as we need the building to be completed in just four months before the end of the financial year."

The offices will be in 24-hour use by around 40 staff. Facilities will include individual offices, reception, meeting and training rooms, kitchen and drinks preparation areas and a platform lift.

A new whole life costing package has also been introduced by Yorkon as part of its commitment to innovation and the environment. An industry first, this software tool allows specification decisions to be assessed over the life cycle of a building, helping customers evaluate the options available to mitigate climate change, reduce carbon emissions and running costs, and achieve best value.
