06/12/2006 – Yorkon Wins Major Industry Award for Fourth Consecutive Year
Off-site construction specialist and Portakabin subsidiary, Yorkon, has won the award for Innovator of the Year – the fourth consecutive year it has been honoured with a Specialist Contractor Award.
This latest award recognises the pioneering work in off-site construction carried out by Yorkon over the past year, and its ongoing commitment to design and innovation. It was presented at a high profile event held in London in association with the DTI and attended by 700 industry professionals.
The innovations recently launched by Yorkon include curved modular buildings, new cladding and glazing options for further architectural variety, clear internal spans of up to 12m for space planning flexibility, and the capability to build up to six storeys high with an open plan system.
According to the award judges, "Yorkon is in the process of unleashing a host of innovations. These include curved modular buildings, a new school design, and even more options that can be built in its factory and safely delivered to the site. Its clients such as Tesco Express and Carillion, and architects such as Cartwright Pickard, all rave about the company, and now so do we."

The Specialist Contractor Awards recognise that specialists are the lifeblood of the construction industry and reward the companies that have significantly raised standards. Specialist contractors are responsible for 80 per cent of all construction expenditure and play a key role in the design and execution of all types of building projects.
