Yorkon Delivers More Than 90% of Projects on Time and on Budget, Exceeding Industry Averages
Research carried out by off-site construction specialist and Portakabin subsidiary, Yorkon, has shown that it has delivered 96 per cent of building projects on time and 94 per cent on budget over the past five years.
This compares to a construction industry average of only 63 per cent of schemes completed on time and 49 per cent on budget.*
Time and cost overruns in the public and private sectors are a major concern among construction clients and were two of the key targets highlighted in the Government's Egan Report and in the Constructing Excellence agenda. These latest figures from Yorkon show that off-site construction can significantly improve time and cost predictability and reduce client risk.
As part of its commitment to quality and service, Yorkon has launched a customer charter, which sets out a series of performance standards for every building project. This includes a pioneering warranty package – a modular industry first. Every Yorkon building now has the benefit of a 20-year structural warranty and a 5-year product warranty, in addition to the system's BBA and LPCB certification and LANTAC approval.
David Johnson, Director and General Manager of Yorkon, said, "Our approach to off-site construction not only cuts programme times by up to half but gives our clients much greater peace of mind that their building will be delivered on time, on budget and to the required quality standards. We have a zero tolerance policy on defects in the manufacturing process and a customer care programme, which ensures a fast and efficient response at every stage of a building project."
He added, "The number of repeat customers we have, which currently stands at more than 70 per cent, is a further indication of the high level of service we provide."
Yorkon's award-winning modular building system has a number of advantages over traditional site-based construction methods, including reduced disruption, improved site safety, and enhanced thermal efficiency. The system allows the creation of large internal spans and a high degree of architectural variety for the external envelope.

- Yorkon has been presented with the award for Best Off-site Specialist at the Specialist Contractor Awards, having previously won the award in 2003 and 2004. This was in recognition of its pioneering work in off-site construction and its ongoing commitment to design and innovation.
- Off-site construction involves the manufacture of steel-framed modules in a factory environment, using production line technology, whilst the foundation works are completed on site. The modules are delivered to site by road where they are craned into position in just a few days ready for fitting out.
- In addition to its design and build services, Yorkon also offers a finance package, which is based on an operating lease arrangement. This gives customers a high degree of flexibility and minimises risk.
