“Yorkon has proved to be very
flexible, has delivered what we needed, and very quickly. We are now keen to expand the approach over
the next 12 months as part of the ongoing development of our business.”
The Requirement
Timpson
had a requirement for retail kiosks at superstores, which can be open and
serving customers less than 24 hours after the arrival of the building on
site.
The Solution
Designed
to take up only two standard car parking bays, the design for the Timpson
retail kiosks comprises two fully fitted steel-framed modules, which can be
craned into position after a supermarket has closed on a Sunday evening, allowing the store to be open and ready to
trade the following day.
Each
outlet arrives on site complete with all electrics, glazing, door, roller
shutter, and shoe repair and key cutting machines to reduce work on site to
less than 24 hours so there is no disruption to the supermarket’s customers.
This
partnership has involved extensive product development with Timpson to engineer
a bespoke solution that is:
- Faster to install
- Built to permanent standards
- Requires only nominal foundations
- Can be relocated to another site if required.
It
successfully demonstrates the flexibility of off-site construction, and the
commercial benefits it can offer to leading retailers such as Tesco and
Timpson.
A Convenient Solution for Timpson’s Customers
The
Timpson stores provide a dry cleaning drop off and collection point, key
cutting and shoe repair services. The
new kiosks are located near the main entrance to each supermarket, offering a
convenient service for customers but without taking up retail space inside the
superstores.

Comments from
the Client
John Monks, Project Manager, Timpson:
“We have been impressed with the efficiency benefits and the value for money off-site construction can bring to our business. It is just not feasible to use traditional methods of construction at trading supermarkets so we need to move the building work off site.”
“Yorkon was recommended to us by Tesco and have proved to be very flexible, have delivered what we needed, and very quickly. We are now keen to expand the approach over the next 12 months as part of the ongoing development of our business.”
